WELCOME TO LAMOILLE VALLEY FARM AND FOREST SCHOOL!

We are an independent school, non-profit K-5 school with a mission to provide an inclusive and high level learning environment. All while immersing children in the outdoors and providing quality, hands-on, place-based education. Our curriculum is grounded in research-based, open-source materials, ensuring comprehensive learning for every child. We employ play-based assessments exclusively to develop personalized learning pathways for each child, ensuring that every student learns at their current level rather than being restricted by age or grade categories.

LVFFS offers part time enrollment, catering to homeschool families, and full time enrollment for a traditional schooling option. Our homeschool program seamlessly integrates with our full-time program, providing strong support for families' educational journeys.

Students experience the richness of the environment, exploring biking trails, oxbow park, and other lush locales. Active participation in community spaces cultivates a profound bond with local ecosystems. Fridays are reserved for immersive forest experiences, emphasizing interaction with local farms and wilderness and highlighting the importance of community engagement.

What sets LVFFS apart from other forest schools? Commonly forest schools “piece together” curriculum. At LVFFS curriculum is research based/open source curriculum, leaving little room for learning gaps and allowing our homeschool families to tie into our daily classes seamlessly. Our Traditional academics are seamlessly integrated with ancestral activities like weaving, carving, baking, fire keeping and much more. Scientific inquiry and practical life skills such as carving and shelter-building are intricately interlaced, stimulating curiosity and equipping students with essential capabilities, ensuring well-rounded development and preparation for life’s diverse challenges.

Our program is thoughtfully crafted to foster curiosity and a deep comprehension of the world, while also instilling a strong sense of environmental interconnectedness and responsible stewardship, all without compromising the integrity of our curriculum. Our students have abundant opportunities to connect with nature, delve into local ecosystems, and cultivate a deep appreciation for the natural world.

LVFFS prides itself on its multi-age classrooms, where older students serve as role models for their younger peers, fostering leadership, mentorship, and collaboration skills. This dynamic creates an environment where students take the lead in their learning, nurturing a lifelong passion for education.
